Arasu cable TV to improve subscriber base to one crore
The government owned corporation earned a profitof Rs 5 crore last financial year
Arasu Cable TV Corporation (ACTC) has planned to increase the number of cable TV connections in Tamil Nadu from the present 65 lakh to one crore during the current financial year, according to Udumalai K. Radhakrishnan, chairman of the corporation.
Talking to reporters after reviewing the progress of the registration of cable TV operators in Vellore district with the ACTC here on Thursday, Mr. Radhakrishnan said that out of the 1,71,246 family card-holders in Vellore taluk, 85,946 are with cable operators who have registered with the government owned cable corporation.
In Arcot taluk, 20,559 out of 57,201 card-holders are with registered cable TV operators, and in Gudiyatham taluk 29,372 (out of 78,456 card-holders) are with the registered operators.
The performance of the corporation in both these taluks were reviewed on Thursday.
The performance of the corporation in Ambur taluk where 28,291 (out of 72,689 card-holders) have connections with registered operators, Vaniyambadi taluk where 29,150 (50,349) have connections with registered operators and in Katpadi taluk where 32,966 (81,165) have connections with registered operators would be reviewed on Friday.
The ACTC chairman said that the corporation has earned a profit of Rs. 5.19 crore during 2012-13 by providing cable TV service to the nearly 25,000 private cable TV operators in the State.
The Corporation has during the year earned revenue of Rs.70 lakh in Vellore district where there are 1,700 operators. ACTC provided the connections of 106 satellite channels. Steps were being taken to provide cable TV connections to the residents of all villages in the State, he said.
