This is not a new story. New Zealand cricket's home season has been blocked out of India (the country with biggest cricket viewership) for few years now. The last official broadcaster of New Zealand cricket in India, as far as I can remember, were Set Max, which later turned into Sony Six and Neo Cricket (now known as Neo Prime & Neo Sports). Until last year, Neo had the telecast rights but they passed it on to Sony Six when India went on New Zealand tour in 2014..
Now, as Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Australia are to visit New Zealand this new year 2016, there still is no channel showing the matches in India. Why?
There are many questions than answers but timing is believed to be the main reason. New Zealand's home cricket starts little after 3am from Indian time (IST) when most cricket fans are falling asleep and finishes by 10am when it's time to wake up. Yes, day-night games to reach up to afternoon mark but broadcasters don't experience much traffic to be able to sell off the advertisements.
That said, there are many paid channels in India who can run without tons of advertisements but still no one has shown interest. Does this have something to do with New Zealand cricket board or their official broadcaster Sky Sports NZ cause I've written to them earlier but never got any satisfactory reply.
