English entertainment channel AXN India is all set to air the fourth season of BBC series ‘Sherlock’.
Presented by Renault, the fourth season will premiere on the channel on 7 January at 8 pm.
The crime series is based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s ‘Sherlock Holmes’ detective stories and is created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss. It stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Dr John Watson. It is a co-production between the British pubcaster BBC and the American station WGBH Boston.
Season 4 of the series is releasing after three years, on popular demand. The fourth season was commissioned in 2015, which began filming in April 2016. The Sherlock panel at San Diego Comic Con 2016 revealed that the fourth season would once again consist of three, 90-minute episodes. It will possibly be a continued arc instead of three individual cases, or, at least, three stories that connect to one bigger plotline.
The status quo of Moriarty is still unknown. As per the trailer, Toby Jones is the big villain of the season. The panel also revealed that this season would be the darkest yet, though showrunner Steven Moffat added that there was still plenty of lighter moments to even out the balance.
The third season of Sherlock become the UK’s most-watched drama series since 2001 and has been sold to 180 territories. ‘Sherlock’ was nominated for numerous awards including: BAFTAs, Emmys and a Golden Globe, winning several awards across a variety of categories. The show won in three categories at the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards including Outstanding Writing for a Miniseries, Movie or a Dramatic Special for Moffat, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie for Cumberbatch, and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie for Freeman.
