for ban on 3 Indian TV channels

MUMBAI: The Bangladesh High Court has sought an explanation from the government on the transmission of three Indian TV channels and a writ seeking a ban on their broadcast in the country.

As per a PTI report, lawyer Shaheen Ara Laili filed a writ stating that Indian TV channels
were adversely affecting Bangladeshi youth and children.

She named three channels in her writ namely, Star Jalsha, Star Plus and Zee Bangla.

She alleged that three Bangladeshi children committed suicide earlier, as they could not buy an identical dress worn by a character in a

A two-member bench of the Bangladesh HC asked the information secretary, the chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), the police chief, the director general of state-run Bangladesh Television and owner of cable TV operating agencies to explain in four weeks, ‘why orders will not be issued to stop transmission’ of the three channels.

The bench comprising justices Mainul Islam Chowdhury and Mohammad Ashraful Kamal issued the rule.

The writ also alleged that no Bangladeshi TV channels were allowed to broadcast in India while the Indian channels were operating in Bangladesh in big numbers.
