In line with its plan to add 10 shows to its programming line-up, Hindi youth GEC Bindass is bringing the second season of ‘Girl in the City’.

The second season will take off from where the first season ended and will chronicle Meera’s journey. Packing in several new surprises for Meera, the second chapter is scheduled for launch in March across television, Facebook and YouTube.

‘Girl in the City 2’ is directed by Samar Shaikh, written by Sanyukta Shaikh, and produced by Still and Still Moving Pictures.

It is a story of small-town girl Meera who comes to Mumbai to fulfil her dream of becoming a fashion designer. The show features Mithila Palkar (Meera), Karanvir Sharma (Kiran), Preetika Chawla (Areem) along with Rajat Barmecha (Kartik).

Speaking about the second season, Disney India Media Networks VP Vijay Subramaniam said, “’Girl in the City’ has acquired tremendous response and in its second season, it will head to some interesting direction. We wanted to keep the story relatable to youth, though we have set it up in a very fictitious manner. It worked for us, as youth can relate to the story and the essence of content that we are producing. Also, we are constantly in contact with our consumers through social media, which further helps to enhance our stories.”

The first season succeeded in acquiring 53 million views including all the micro-content, episodes and live interactions with the cast. The channel is aiming to produce more youth-related quality content.

As in the first season, ‘Girl in the City 2’ has got Castrol Activ Scooter as the presenting sponsor with Titan (Tanishq Mia) and Zydus (Everyuth) as associate sponsors.

“The definite stride that Bindass is taking to present itself as omni-content brand is getting great response for our content. Advertisers are seeing it as an opportunity, and the conversations are going from being driven on unilateral platform to multi-platform. The fact that the original sponsors are back for second season says it all and they are very well involved in the series,” Subramaniam added.

Over the years, Bindass has made a strong line-up of finite series such as ‘Beg Borrow Steal’, ‘Girl in the City’ and ‘The Trip’. The channel is in talks with producers to bring the second season of ‘The Trip’. It will also launch a new youth-focused web series in the coming month.

Subramanian stated, “The positives of finite series are that you are able to design a story arc with definite beginning, middle and end, keeping the space, and most importantly freshness and interest of the audience. Our goal as storytellers is to create stories that are unique and relatable to the millennials. The interesting thing of shorter format is that you can binge-watch, whereas with long formats you can choose to watch it multiple times across various platforms.”

The channel aims to be present across media platforms. The aim is to have a conversational approach and follow consumers’ presence across verticals. To increase its reach, Bindass is also in talks with several OTT platforms to have strategic partnerships.
