Reliance Group is set to rebrand Bloomberg TV, the business news channel it runs, after Bloomberg LP ended a seven-year-old licensing tie-up with the Anil Ambani-led group.
Business Broadcast News Pvt. Ltd, which runs the Bloomberg TV channel, will rename the channel Business Television India (BTVIn) early next month, according to a company executive who declined to be named.
In January, Bloomberg LP, the business information and media firm controlled by billionaire Michael Bloomberg, and Business Broadcast News announced that they will not extend their media licensing agreement, under which Bloomberg TV is aired in India, beyond 31 March.
The executive said Business Broadcast News was in talks with a couple of firms for a new partnership for its channel.
He added that the company has signed an agreement for data feed with Thomson Reuters Corp. Thomson Reuters could not be reached for a comment immediately.
“We will phase out the Bloomberg brand name by early August. All Bloomberg terminals will get replaced by Reuters terminals. The programming for the channel will be tweaked to be more glocal (global+local),” said the executive.
While Siddharth Zarabi will continue to head the editorial operations of the channel, the company has hired Monica Tata, a former managing director of HBO India, to head the restructuring on the business side of the news operations on a project basis, the executive said.
The new Business Television India website and logo will be unveiled next month.
Reliance Capital Ltd and entrepreneur Ronnie Screwvala, among others, are shareholders in Business Broadcast News.
In April, Mint reported that Raghav Bahl, founder of Quintillion Media Pvt. Ltd that operates news website thequint.com, has signed a joint venture agreement with Bloomberg LP to launch a co-branded television news channel and website.
