NEW DELHI: Cable TV viewers in 23 cities have been asked by broadcasting regulator TRAI to submit complete subscribership details by January 27 failing which signals will be switched off.

These 23 cities are Rajkot, Surat, Vadodara, Faridabad, Mysore, Aurangabad, Nasik, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune, Sholapur, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Agra, Allahabad, Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Lucknow, Meerut, Varanasi, Chandigarh and Howrah.

TRAI officials said 90 per cent of the task pertaining to collection of consumer application forms (CAFs) and entry of complete consumer details into the subscriber management system has been completed in these cities.

TRAI asked consumers in these cities to submit the CAFs and ensure their complete details are present in the subscriber management system of the Multi System Operators (MSO).

All these 23 cities were among the 38, in which digitisation was ushered in under the second phase of the drive. Officials said that different deadlines had been set for the rest of these 38 cities.

TRAI said 80 per cent of the task was complete in Patna, Ahmedabad, Ranchi, Bangalore, Kalyan-Dombivili, Nagpur, Navi Mumbai and Thane and fixed a deadline of January 31 after which signals to cable subscribers who don't submit CAF will be switched off.

Noting that the compliance in cities of Madhya Pradesh, which recently went to elections, was low, TRAI fixed a deadline of February 7 for Bhopal, Indore and Jabalpur. It said that keeping in mind the ground situation and legal issues involved, the deadline for Vishakhapatnam and Srinagar has been extended to February 28.

TRAI said no deadline has been set for cities of Tamil Nadu and Hyderabad given pending legal cases regarding digitisation.
