MUMBAI: The plot thickens in the 2G scam case and funding of Kalaignar TV, the television broadcasting outfit in which DMK chief M Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi and managing director Sharad Kumar are shareholders.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will now examine the money given to Tamil channel Kalaignar TV by UB Group and India Cements in 2010-11.
The agency is investigating on an amount of Rs 2 billion paid by DB Group, allegedly as bribe to Kalaignar TV.
The CBI will look into the accounts of the four firms, including UB Group and India Cements that reportedly gave money to the channel in 2010-11.
The CBI will examine whether the money was used by the channel to return the Rs 2 billion to DB Group.
In its chargesheet, the CBI had said Kalaignar TV paid back Rs 2 billion to Cineyug Films, which in turn paid it to Kusegaon Fruits. This was then transferred to DB Group, according to the CBI.
