MUMBAI: Week 33 brought a whiff of change for the English channels in various genres. While newly launched Colors Infinity entered the English entertainment leadership chart with its HD version, Sony Pix rejoined the top three channels in the English movie genre after about a month.
English entertainment
As per BARC data for the week ended 21 August, Colors Infinity HD, which started beaming on 31 July, entered the chart at No. 3.
Zee Café continued to maintain its lead as it witnessed a huge surge in viewership, more than double its ratings compared to Week 32.
Star World also saw a rise in viewership during the week, moving one spot up to No. 2 on the chart. As a result, AXN was displaced from the top three channels in the genre.
English movie channels
The English movie genre also saw a change during the week. HBO slipped out of the top three channels and Sony Pix was back at No. 3 after over a month.
The genre grew during the week as all the channels saw a rise in their respective viewership. Movies Now held on to the top spot, while Star Movies moved up to No. 2.
Top five movies
The top-rated movie of the week came from Zee Studio, thanks to its airing of the animated action comedy ‘Kung Fu Panda 2’.
The second spot was occupied by Movies Now with ‘Knight & Day’, followed by Sony Pix at No. 3 with ‘Piranha 4’.
Genre leader Movies Now took the fourth and fifth positions as well by airing ‘Predators’ and ‘Evil Dead’ respectively.
Kids
The top kids channels saw a fall in their viewership in the week ended 21 August.
Nonetheless, Nick continued to maintain its lead, followed by Pogo at No. 2.
Cartoon Network reclaimed its No. 3 position, displacing Disney Channel from the top three.
Infotainment
Although the infotainment genre saw overall growth, it was a week of seesaw between the top three channels.
While Discovery continued to maintain its leadership, National Geographic Channel (NGC) and History TV18 fought it out for the second spot.
Having a larger percentage of growth, NGC moved up from the third to the second spot, while History TV18 took the third spot.
