Now, stories on DD Kisan to promote best farm practices
NEW DELHI: Prasar Bharati will combine best practices in agriculture with the age-old traditional story-telling for its 24-hour Kisan channel. The channel that is likely to go on air on January 14—that is celebrated across the country as harvest festival--is an idea close to PM Narendra Modi's heart.
Christened DD Kisan, the channel will build a resource pool of agriculture economists, scientists, experts in soil, seeds, fertilisers and other inputs to create content. "Instead of a boring talk-down approach we plan to introduce folklore, festivals, songs to make it an edu-tainment channel,'' a senior official said.
The channel will initially roll-out in Hindi and Prasar Bharati officials are looking at dubbing the programmes in regional languages like Tamil, Telegu, Bengali, Kannada and others. Work is on the fast-track with a series of interactions with scientists, farmers, educationists planned across the country spearheaded by information and broadcasting minister Prakash Javadekar. "We have already had one interaction but at least a dozen more are planned in Bhopal, Varanasi, Punjab, cities in the north east to understand people's concerns, different requirements,'' the official said.
Prasar Bharati CEO Jawahar Sircar, DD director general Vijaylaxmi Chhabra, DD additional director general Ranjan Mukherjee, scientist Dr M Pataria are closely associated with the channel.
The public broadcaster also plans to tie -up with TCS's mKrishi and Rallis India that are web-based systems providing online support including advice on crop patterns, weather forecast, soil regeneration and feedback.
Sources said that the channel will also take inputs from ministries of agriculture, panchayati raj, rural development, food, health and fertiliser for content. Among the issues that will be tackled include farm mechanization to overcome shortage of labour, access to markets, adequate storage facilities, best practices in agriculture across the world and use of technology.
