In a major respite for multi-system operator (MSO) Digicable Network India, the Supreme Court has granted interim relief to the Jagjit Singh Kohli-promoted company to continue its cable TV operations.
Digicable had moved the Supreme Court after the Bombay High Court had vacated its stay on the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) order cancelling the MSO’s licence.
The stay on the MIB’s order of licence cancellation will, thus, continue. The apex court has posted the matter for hearing on 14 December.
“We had moved the Supreme Court against the Bombay High Court order vacating the stay order on the cancellation of our MSO licence by the MIB.
The Supreme Court has restored the stay order,” Digicable Network India managing director and CEO Jagjit Singh Kohli told TelevisionPost.com.
Digicable had challenged the basis on which the security clearance was denied by the MHA.
Security clearance is a prerequisite for grant of MSO registration.
The ministry had cancelled Digicable’s MSO licence on 3 September 2014 due to denial of security clearance by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
