The government run Arasu Cable TV Corporation (TACTV) of Tamil Nadu is all set to launch shortly its services in digital mode for two million subscribers in Chennai Metropolitan Area.

The contract for controlled access system will be awarded with set top boxes and subscriber management system very soon. The company also plans envisages the introduction of a digital head end in Chennai metro, according to an official of the company. About the time frame for set top box distribution, the official said as per the tender document, the company which gets the order for the same will be asked to begin supplies within six to eight weeks.

As per the Centre’s order to complete cable digitization by October 31, Arasu Cable TV intends to make all the efforts to comply with the order. The company may, however, seek extension as per the ground realities. The company also expects the number of subscribers to go higher than the estimates provided by the cable operators.

Exactly one year ago, Chief Minister Jayalalitha launched the cable TV services of Arasu Cable TV all over the state except Chennai by switching on the head end at Vellore (through video conferencing).
