I am looking forward to buy Videocon D2H HD set top box.

Q1: Without selecting any base packages can i directly buy the set top box and opt for a-la-carte channels?

Q2: If i mix both SD and HD channels in my a-la-carte list, should i have to pay any HD Access fee?

Bro,without selecting base pack it's not possible & one months base with new connection is compulsary on all dth & i think sd pack & hd alacate hd access fee not available ( this is my guess only) & Hd access fee means 4 Hd channels @ Rs.100 per months & also 12 hd channels @ Rs.150 for south customers &

Q1: I think it is possible. But I didn't try it. You can check with CC.
Q2: You don't need to pay HD access fee for adding HD channels via a-la-carte.

Yes you can. I am using like that. But minimum recharge is rs.169 per month. You cannot remove any opted channels for next 3 months. You buy the connection with base pack and change to ala carte package through d2h website anytime (i.e Even the next day). NO HD ACCESS FEE.

Q1. Yes
Q2. No
I am already using a-la-carte pack thjs way and not hd access fee is needed. You need to check if while taking a new connection initial month you need to keep usual base pack. But yes later you can surely have a-la-carte without hd access fee with locking period 3 months and min 169 rs.

Yes that’s right, in Videocon D2H HD if you select A La Carte, you don’t have to pay HD Access fee to view HD channels.
only In Tatasky HD, you have to pay HD access fee for A La Carte HD Channels also.

I am using Hathway HD as my primary connection and Videocon HD to view few select channels in A La Carte to view Star world Premier HD and & Pictures HD etc..

Thank you all. Happy to know that Videocon is not having any HD access fee. So will be for Airtel too, i guess.

Without HD access fee, i think a-la-carte is better option to cut down the huge costs on HD channels. My wish is to have only couple of HD channels just for name sake - may be 1 movie, 1 music and 1 info channel.

If gone for Base SD pack+Base HD pack, here is the comparison list (South packs only): Tatasky - Rs.180+Rs.125=Rs.305. DishTV - Rs.185+Rs.125=Rs.310 , Videocon - Rs.180+Rs.100=Rs.280, Airtel - Rs.170+Rs.70=Rs.240.

Now, being selective, all D2Hs have a-la-carte rates between Rs.150 to Rs.165. But for Tatasky i need to pay extra Rs.125 as HD access fee. For DishTV, neither 'Pick My Channel' service has HD channels nor independent a-la-carte exists! So final options are Videocon and Airtel. But for Airtel the HD charges are couple of rupees higher than Videocon. Also, considering the HD selection list and the cost of the HD set top box, i decide for Videocon. About Rs.165/month only. Please correct me if i am wrong in my judgement.

Some correction. Videocon is having HD access fee for base packs. It is not there only for a-la-carte.
