My friend got an old crt tv for his 4 year old daughter for her bedroom. He's trying to plug in his cable to the tv and it's just coming up as static.
Do I need an analog to digital converter? I figured I would if I was using antena tv but not cable.

Yes. You need digital to analog converter box. The cable signal is digital. Old CRT TVs cannot recognize them. They need to be converted to analog first.
