More than 2,500 people have subscribed to Entel's satellite direct-to-home (DTH) service in Bolivia. After several delays, the platform has been up and running since the end of June, targeting the whole country through both post and pre-paid packages.
According to Óscar Coca, Entel's CEO, speaking to the country's media, the service's highest demand is in the urban areas.
There are four different packages, which will be officially launched next week. The basic package costs around $8 plus an aerial and an SD set-top box (STB) at a price of $40. The other three plans include a HD STB for $55 and then $18 for 74 channels, $25 for 92 and $27 for the widest option of 102 channels.
Entel is launching the platform through the Túpac Katari satellite, of which it owns 50% of capacity. The satellite was on trial until 16 March and Entel's service was originally scheduled to launch on 1 April.
The DTH platform is part of Entel's growth plans, which have driven a $300 million investment this year. The national telco aims to compete in the growing pay-TV market against other companies focusing on Bolivia, such as Tigo Millicom.
