Eros pre-sells satellite rights of key Hindi movies to three big broadcasters
Film studio Eros International Media, which has a strong slate for fiscal 2017, has pre-sold the satellite rights of nine key Hindi films to the three big broadcasting firms—Star India, Viacom18 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL).
Eros has also sold regional movies and catalogue rights to a clutch of broadcasters. Star India has bought the satellite rights to ‘Housefull 3′, ‘Dishoom’ and ‘Shivaay’. ZEEL has purchased five films, namely ‘Baar Baar Dekho’, ‘Rock On 2′, ‘Banjo’, ‘Nil Batte Sannatta’, which released in April, and ‘Aligarh’.
Viacom18 acquired the satellite rights to only one film—Arjun Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor starrer ‘Ki and Ka’, which released in April. Apart from these major deals, the company has also sold catalogues of Hindi movies to Sony Pictures Networks (SPN) India and ZEEL.
Eros has also pre-sold the satellite rights of regional slates. The company has 29 films firmed up for release during the fiscal. Out of those it has already released nine films, including four in Hindi and five in regional languages
regional film slate is almost equally split, with 14 of the 29 films falling in the regional category. The regional films will be released in six languages, namely Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi and Punjabi.
Talking about the FY17 movie slate recently, Eros International Media Executive vice chairman and MD Sunil Lulla had said, “We have a very exciting film slate for the upcoming quarters, which include films such as ‘Rock On 2’, ‘Dishoom’, ‘Baar Baar Deko’, ‘Shivaay’, ‘Banjo’ and ‘Singham 3′, along with a diversified slate of other regional releases.
On the whole, FY 2017 will be seeing an exciting movie repertoire of over 65 content-driven Eros films in Hindi and other regional languages, making it the biggest future slate by any studio in India. “The slate would also be aided by compelling films from our franchise production arm Trinity Pictures. To further demonstrate our portfolio and de-risking strategy, I am happy to announce that a substantial part of the above-mentioned slate is already pre-sold for satellite rights with the major television networks.”
