History:-
'NERKATTUMSEVAL' meaning "Paddy Paying Place". Nerkattumseval Paalayam was a peaceful place in Thirunelveli, Tamil Nadu where there was maximum production of Paddy PULITHEVAR was the Ruler of Nerkattumseval. In 1755 British asked PULITHEVAR to pay them Paddy as tax. Because in those days British used to ask tax which was the aboundant source of that area. In the same way they asked for Paddy as tax in Nerkattumseval but PULITHEVAR replied that "We even don't show the Paddy to you" to the British and had the courage to face the British. But till now no one know about him.
The day after which PULITHEVAR said that they will not pay tax. The name of place changed as 'NER KAATTAAN SEVVAL' meaning "Place Not Paying Paddy".
PULITHEVAR'S Battle:- (1757)
Most of them thinks that the first battle for Independence was at 1857 But it has been started at 1757. And he won the battle too. The battle was between Mohammed Ali Nawab and PULITHEVAR at Nerkaattaan Sevval (Nerkattumseval). In this battle Mohammed Ali Nawab teamed with John Company and they lost the Battle.

Then in 1761 PULITHEVAR lost a battle against Yusuf Khan.
PULITHEVAR'S Personal Life:-
He was born on August 1st 1715 for Sivagnana Nachiyar and Chithraputhra Thevar. His bold look like a warrior made others to give respect and fear on him. Then he married his cousin Kayalkanni Nachiyar with the blessings of his parents. As a symbol of their Love they had two children VellaPandian and Gomathi MuthuRani Duraichi.
PULITHEVAR and VELLAPANDIAN are still consider as Gods in Nerkattumseval and they praise them. After the death of VellaPandian the first child born in the every family was kept the name of him as their first name as the resemblance of their living. This has been a Heritage of the place till now.
Example:- If the child is male VELLADURAI, VELLAPANDIAN, VELLACHAMY, SIVA. If it is a girl child VELLATHAI, VELLADURAICHI, SIVA. Why Siva??? His another name is Sivagnana Pandian.
After his defeat against the British in 1761 He was arrested by the British in 1767 and taken to Palayankottai jail. On the way to jail he escaped from them and he ran through the tunnel in the Temple which is in Sankaran Kovil. The Tunnel was locked and it is still existing in the Temple. But some people say he vanished and no one wish to say that he was dead and he rest in the Miracle of Mahadeva.
Reason for his Name PULITHEVAR:-
His real name was POOLI KAATHAPA THEVAR at that time a Tiger (Puli) was scaring every people in Madurai Meenatchi Amma Temple. So the people requested many of the Kings of Southern parts to kill the Tiger but all the Kings efforts lost against the Tiger. At that time POOLIKATHAPA THEVAR was also asked to kill the Tiger. He had a tactic knowledge that the Tiger can only jump 16 feet which the other people doesn't know. He stood up at the 18th feet and while the Tiger jumped in front he assassinated the Tiger. From then he was called as PULIDEVAR by the people.
For doing anything the beginning is the most important thing. For every reason the beginning by someone which motivates the other to do. For example so many of people reached the moon after Niel Amstrong but the only name still exits was Niel Amstrong. But the same happened due to PULIDEVAR but his name has not given a valuable place in history.
All we say is that a valuable position was not given to a valuable person in the History. Do you know about him. Everyone wants to know about Cinema and Sports but no one wants to know about these kinds of warriors.
Till now even the government has not given him a recognise. If the government and people gives some honour and recognition his sacrifice towards the nation remains worthy.
