Universal/Comcast Corp. just announced that the ninth Fast and the Furious movie will be opening not on April 19, 2019, but rather on April 10, 2020. That's not exactly a jaw-dropper of an announcement. But for what it's worth, with Fate of the Furious having come out in April 2017, this will mean a whole three years between installments ― the longest gap since Fast & Furious (2009) followed Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006).
The addition of Dwayne Johnson to the Fast & Furious world in Fast Five proved to be a game-changer for the franchise, and now John Cena is hoping to be the latest wrestler-turned-actor to make such an impact.
Last week Cena, who most recently starred in Bumblebee, was officially cast in Fast & Furious 9. And speaking to EW in the wake of the announcement, he couldn’t be more excited to get behind the wheel.
