Emraan Hashmi as Mohammad Azharuddin in
the first look of the film Azhar

After the first look of Azhar, the biopic on former
Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin was
revealed on May 22, the film team has now
released the teaser of the same on the IPL Extra
Innings. The film stars Emraan Hashmi as
Azharuddin, and it will hit the theatres on May

The biopic touches upon the former Indian
skipper's life and career, and will supposedly
portray the ups and downs of his life. Prachi
Desai is essaying the role of the cricketer's first
wife in the film, Nargis Fakhri was supossed to
play Sangeeta Bijlani, Azhar's second wife, or so
the grapevine had suggested. However, at the
first look launch of the film in Mumbai on May
21, Ekta Kapoor cleared the air about the same.

She said that Nargis may not be a part of the
film. Azhar is being helmed by Anthony D'Souza,
whose last film was the Akshay Kumar-starrer
Boss.

Dressed up a la our men in blue, Hashmi appears
quite convincing as Azharuddin in the teaser. He
is seen walking down the pavilion, bat in hand,
with fans shouting their support all along. Apart
from Azhar's life in general, the teaser touches
upon the charm the cricketer had over people
back then, and the match fixing allegations that
had dogged him for a while.

The teaser of the film was released today, and
the first look was launched on May 21. At the
May 21 event, Mohammad Azharuddin was also
in attendance. Apart from Hashmi, D'Souza and
Azhar, Ekta Kapoor was present at the event.
The film is being produced under the Balaji
Motion Pictures' banner.
