MUMBAI: A broader picture of what is happening! That is what the recently launched Hindi news channel News Nation is looking to deliver to viewers in a genre that has in the past been accused of focussing too much on frivolous items and ignoring hard news.

News Nation that is looking to make a difference in a competitive landscape will begin its official promotional campaign soon. The channel is promoted by Alpha Dealcom Pvt Ltd with Abhay Oswal as the chairman and Shailesh Kumar as the editor-in-chief. The aim is to make a difference. News Nation targets the educated and sophisticated Hindi speaking audience.

Like competition the channel aims at providing fast-breaking news on the big issues in fields like politics, crime, corruption, cricket and of course Bollywood. The news channel is beaming off Intelsat20.

While the news broadcasters' test signal started in October last year, the channel has been on air since January 2013. The viewers can tune into News Nation through all platforms- both multi system operators (MSOs) and direct-to-home (DTH) with the exception of Tata Sky. The channel is thus live on platforms like Dish TV, Airtel, Videocon, Hathway, IN cable and Siti cable. It is in talks with Tata Sky.

The official website was also simultaneously launched early this year- Today's News .

With it's headquarter in Noida, the editorial team will be based Pan India across 20 bureaus. The news bureaus include Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and the Hindi heartland of Bhopal and Lucknow.

Speaking to Indiantelevision.com, veteran journalist and News Nation editor-in-chief Shailesh Kumar said: "News Nation broadcasts in Hindi but covers the whole of India. We have a network of a strong team of 500 reporters which ensures that News Nation's reach extends to every corner of our vast country."

Being new in the rat race of this very competitive segment, the channel has outsourced the services of a Mumbai based distribution agency. Besides, Carat Media is the media agency and McCANN Ericson is the creative agency that will help News Nation to make the right noise.

Kumar further indicated that six months from now, News Nation may be distributed internationally. MITC, a distribution agency in Europe and US may be approached for international distribution.

The news channel is using technology with the latest news gathering equipment like backpacks, sophisticated and new generation OB vans and HD technology. "News Nation is capable of delivering news faster than the competition," added Kumar.

The Mumbai bureau has journalist Subhash Shirke at the helm of affairs and also produces the entertainment segment.

The channel's content includes - 'Good News', 'The Right Angle', presents the brighter side of life; 'Aapka Pradesh' will present a rich line-up of news from India's heartland.

In the prime-time slot 'Zero Hour' airs at 8.00 pm and 'Question Hour' at 9.00 pm. Both will be hosted by experienced and well known journalist Ajay Kumar.

Emphasising its USP, Kumar said, "News Nation will paint a broad picture of what is happening in India today, not just focusing on politics, or business, or sport, or superstition. We also turn the spotlight on other aspects of modern life - finance, education, fashion, gadgetry, nutrition, all that concerns our viewers."

News Nation will begin its full scale promotional campaign on Hindi general entertainment, non-fiction entertainment and movie channels once the process of digitisation gets completed across India, informed Kumar.
