Fox is bringing The Exorcist and Lethal Weapon to TV this fall
Fox announced its fall and mid-season TV schedule this morning, revealing new information on a handful of highly anticipated reboots and adaptations premiering in the next year. The network's two new fall dramas both build on established movie franchises. A series-length contemporary version of The Exorcist starring Geena Davis and Alfonso Herrera will possess Fox's Friday nights alongside a new season of Hell's Kitchen, and a new take on Lethal Weapon starring Damon Wayans will lead into new episodes of Empire on Wednesday nights. Neither show has a specific premiere date yet, but they're on track to start airing sometime in September.
The network's mid-season debuts are headlined by 24: Legacy, the Jack Bauer-less reboot that was given a series order less than a month ago. If it wasn't already obvious Fox is invested in the show's success, the network is giving 24: Legacy's premiere its coveted post-Super Bowl LI slot on Sunday, February 5th. (The show will move into its usual Monday night time slot one day later.) It's Fox's best chance to get the show — "an adrenaline-fueled race against the clock to stop a devastating terrorist attack on United States soil," as it's described in a press release — in front of hundreds of millions of potential viewers.
MORE ORIGINAL PROGRAMMING THAN EVER BEFORE
"Next season on Fox, we'll have more original programming across our schedule than ever before," said Fox Television Group chairmen and CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman in a statement. "We'll use our strong established hits in the fall and Super Bowl LI in winter to launch a diverse slate of shows that are unmistakably Fox."
