The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) has issued two new television channel licences, taking the total number of channels in the country to 832 as on 9 April 2015.
Delhi-based Exclusive Vision Media has been granted non-news licence for Vedas OM non-news channel in English, Hindi and all Indian scheduled languages.
Chandigarh-based Sri Sai Media has won a news television licence for Swadesh News in Hindi, English and all other Indian scheduled languages.
The licences for Vedas OM and Swadesh News were issued on 2 and 12 March respectively.
Incorporated on 30 October 2012, Exclusive Vision Media had authorised share capital of Rs 6.5 crore (Rs 65 million) and paid-up capital of Rs 5.07 crore (Rs 50.7 million).
Sarad Kumar and Ram Parkash Dahiya are the directors of Exclusive Vision Media.
Sri Sai Media was incorporated on 06 September 2012. Its authorised share capital is Rs 20.2 crore (Rs 200.2 million) while its paid-up capital is Rs 20.1 crore (Rs 201 million). The directors of Sri Sai Media are Tripta Devi and Satinder Kumar Punj.
Of the 832 channels, 406 are news and current affairs channels while 426 are non-news and current affairs channels.
The MIB has permitted 703 TV channels to uplink from India as well as to downlink into India. 36 TV channels have been permitted to uplink from India but not permitted to downlink into India.
93 TV channels have been permitted to only downlink into India (uplinked from aboard).
As on 31 January 2015, the MIB had approved four TV licences of Ramoji Rao-promoted Eenadu Television Pvt Ltd (ETPL) ETV Plus, ETV Life and ETV Abhiruchi, and 9X Media’s 9X Bangla.
