its celebrated mostly in karnataka , Andhra pradesh , Telangana & tamilnadu . its done by married women for wellbeing of family members. its even celebrated in other states but in different date as lakshmi puja. its believed worshippig goddess Varamahalakshmi on this day is equivalent to worshipping Ashtalakshmi .
