Here is a study on How DD Free Dish eating small broadcasters?

Reason behind these removals and no participation in e-auctions:
The biggest reason for not participating channels in e-auctions and removal of channels from DD free dish is high priced slots. And the biggest reason for high priced slots is DD free dish's new e-auction methodologies. The new e-auction methodologies had introduced in January 2023, and used in last two annual e-auctions. This new methodology creating artificial shortage of slots in annual e-auction and Broadcasters are encouraged to bid higher for slots. Broadcasters have no idea how many slots are left for broadcasters due to this methodology and have bought slots at prices much higher than the base price. And at this price of slots in annual e-auction, the base price is determined in the upcoming mini e-auctions. Here some data is given before and after e-auction methodologies:

Before introduction of new E-auction methodology:

2020: There are total 53 slots in this annual e-auction and Prasar Bharati made 594.25cr from this e-auction.
Average slots price is 11.21 Cr.

2021: There are total 57 slots in this annual e-auction and Prasar Bharati made 731.34cr from this e-auction.
Average slot price is 12.83 Cr.

2022: There are total 59 slots in this annual e-auction and Prasar Bharati made 645cr from this e-auction.
Average slot price is 10.93cr

After introduction of New E-auction Methodology:

2023: There are total 65 slots in this e-auction and Prasar Bharati earned 1073cr.
Average slot price is 16.50cr

2024: There are total 64 slots in this e-auction and Prasar Bharati earned 1156cr.
Average slots price is 18.06cr.

Increase in Average slot price:
2020: 11.21cr
2021: 12.83cr: 14% increase
2022: 10.93cr: 14% decrease
2023*: 16.50cr: 50% increase
2024*: 18.60cr: 12.72% increase
* With new e-auction methodologies

From this we can find out that there are more than 50% increase in Average slot price after implantation of new E-auction methodologies.

From the data provided, we can find out how much damage DD free dish has caused to small broadcasters. After all these expenses broadcasters can't Invest much money on content and can't attract viewers. And at last they have to close there channel. DD free dish destroyed many small broadcasters like Azaad, India daily live, Bharat24 etc. Private DTH operators increase the price for their own benefit is ok, but why public operator? DD free dish should think that they are here to serve people and not to make so much money.

Solution: There are just one solution for Broadcastrs. They should boycott the next annual e-auction and make pressure on Prasar Bharati to decrease the base price.

Definitely, PB need to revise E-Auction price list and to be affordable to all broadcaster hence, variety of channels in genre will show in DDFD.

Hopefully, PB & DDFD Management will look into this hence increase the popularity of DDFD.

South Indian channels not participate in many years, it is only for north India. Lotvof political behind that. At least 2- 3 channels allotted for every south Indian languages, it is useful to small broadcasters.

There is not much fault of Prasar Bharati here. They alloted Minimum 3 channels to Regional language channels under R1 Bucket. Here is some possible reasons that Why South channels not available on DD Free Dish-

1) Anti-Social Channels: Some antisocial broadcasters are using this loophole to buy slots at lower price for their channels. After which only ads are shown on regional language slots. These channels get the slot by bidding big, then deserving channels don't get the chance. There are many examples like Popular TV, Pear TV etc.
2) Low User base: Low user base of DD Free Dish at South India, also not attracting Private Regional Broadcasters to buy slots in DD Free Dish.

Solution: I have a solution for this too. Prasar Bharati should Mandate Channels to available on atleast one Private DTH and 2 year broadcasting experience is must for Regional language channels.
