Definitely a bug. But I am not able to understand that why is active screen opening and not messages.
Bro, nothing to worry about it, your box is working fine, you are just pressing the wrong button, from yesterday the yellow button has been reserved for the language options for Subtitles on the channels i.e. subtitles in Hindi, English etc, very soon this service will be introduced by Tatasky as right now they are working on it, thats why now this button is no more available for alerts or messages, very soon every set top box will be updated with this new development and they will be also not able to use the yellow button any more for viewing their messages or alerts, and thats why your stb hangs when you press yellow button and you have to restart your box again and you see that message icon again !!
Bro, now onwards you will have to press the Home button on your remote to view the messages or alerts on your stb, when you will press the home button, which is just behind the TV button on your remote, you will be able to see your messages and now you will be also able to read them as now it will not hang anymore, and now as you select and open the new message on your screen, the yellow light on your box indicating new alerts will be off now, also now when you are back to view the channel by pressing the TV button on you remote, that message icon will be no more there. Now it will be again there only when any new message comes, then you have to again simply press the home button on your remote to view that message !!
