India is moving fast towards digitisation with the 32 Direct-to-Home (DTH) channels streaming lectures live. That is great news for students. The Ministry of Human Resource and Development is all in for the launching of 32 DTH channels to provide students with live broadcast of classroom lectures from top-class institutions.

“The government is focusing on using space technology to expand the reach of high quality education. Through the 32 DTH channels the aim is to ensure that live classrooms can be transmitted from ten ‘Teaching Ends’ out of which six will be IITs located in Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Kharagpur, Kanpur and Guwahati”, as per a senior official to the PTI.

Not less than 12 top-notch institutes will provide live lectures that will be covered and broadcasted. Note that these channels will be available free of cost on Doordarshan’s Free Dish DTH platform. The only thing needed by student is a Set Top Box. Students will also be able to interact live with the teachers while the latter are delivering their lessons live with multimedia material on the channels.
