The Hindi news channel genre has witnessed a change in the top order after a long time, with India TV taking up the pole position during the week ended 4 September.
As per BARC India data for Week 35 (29 Aug–4 Sep), India TV became the Hindi news genre leader with gross impressions of 30,134 (sum of ratings in thousands). Aaj Tak, the previous week’s leader, witnessed a fall and was placed No. 2. It was followed by ABP News, which continued at the third place with a minor gain.
English news genre NDTV 24X7 made a re-entry in the top three of the English news genre, directly at No. 2.
Times Now and India Today TV continued at the first and third positions respectively. While Times Now and NDTV 24X7 witnessed some gain in their viewership, India Today TV saw a marginal drop. Incidentally, News9, the Karnataka-based English news channel that had last week surprised many by entering the fray, dropped out in the week under review.
English business news There was no change in the top order of the English business news genre. CNBC TV18, ET Now and hybrid channel NDTV Profit/Prime continued to hold on to their respective positions.
However, all three channels witnessed a drop in their respective viewership. Hindi business news Similar to English business news genre, the Hindi business news space also witnessed a decline for both the channels, CNBC Awaaz and Zee Business. The order of the two channels remained unchanged.
