IPL final on Max clocks 17.8 mn TVM

MUMBAI: The final match of the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), delivered a viewership of 17.8 million television viewership in millions (TVM) on Max, the official broadcaster of the sporting event.

As per TAM data for the Hindi-speaking markets (sourced from subscribers), the gross viewership stood at 128 million in the week ended 7 May.

In fact, the airing of the IPL on Multi Screen Media’s (MSM) sports channel Six delivered a viewership of 1.9 million or a gross of 14 million. As the IPL came to an end, total viewership of Max dropped to 309 million gross television viewership in millions (GVMs), from 470 million in the previous week.

The end of the IPL also saw a drop in the Hindi movie genre’s overall viewership. The genre lost 193 million GVMs during Week 23 to end the week with 1,127 million GVMs, compared to 1,320 million in the trailing week.

Hindi news also saw a loss of 67 million GVMs, while Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs) dropped by just 13 million GVMs.

Kids and sports genre, however, saw an increase of 12 million and 19 million GVMs, respectively.
