→ MUMBAI: In a major movie acquisition deal, Tamil channel Jaya TV has acquired the rights to superstar Rajnikanth’s upcoming film ‘Lingaa’ for a whopping Rs 32 crore (Rs 320 million).
Since Tamil Nadu is a big film market with about three to four film releases every week, movie acquisitions are important for the channel. Touted to be the biggest satellite rights acquisition deal in the history of South Indian films, the acquisition of ‘Lingaa’ gives Jaya TV an edge over its competitors which include bigger channels like Sun TV, Star Vijay and Zee Tamizh.
The channel earlier bought the rights to films like ‘Kochadaiyan’, ‘Kaththi’ and ‘I’.
Directed by KS Ravikumar, ‘Lingaa’ stars Rajnikanth, Anushka Shetty, Sonakshi Sinha and Santhanam, with Rajnikanth playing a dual role.
The movie is slated to hit the theatres on 12 December, Rajnikanth’s birthday.
The Tamil action thriller film has music composed by AR Rahman, while the cinematography has been done by R Rathnavelu.
The movie will also release in Telugu and Hindi.
