Kolkata seems to be far away from meeting the I&B Ministry’s fresh deadline of December 27 for digitisation of cable television homes. Multi-system operators (MSOs) in the city recently urged the Centre to further extend the deadline until January 15 as set-top boxes have been installed in only 65 per cent of the households in the Kolkata Metropolitan Area (KMA).
The five major MSOs cover around 35 lakh cable TV households in KMA. Experts feel the West Bengal Government’s repeated demand for extension of digitisation deadline citing law and order issues is giving the users a leeway.
