KOLKATA: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has expressed concern over the city's performance in the implementation of the Digital Addressable Cable TV System (DAS) as its performance is the worst among 4 metros.

Trai principal advisor N Parameswaran said here today after a meeting with the city-based MSOs that the overall implementation of the subscriber management system (SMS) in the city is just 20 per cent as against at least 80 per cent in the other three metros.

The compliance among MSOs varies between 2 and 60 per cent in the metropolis.

He said Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had strictly decided to implement DAS in its complete form and those not complying with the direction will have to face criminal prosecutions.

The deadline to implement SMS expired on July 10. The MSOs, meanwhile, sought more time to implement the SMS and based on that Trai would give a final deadline tomorrow. Trai tried to offer a fortnight, but the MSOs sought some more time.

Once subscriber data is fed in SMS, consumers will be able to select channels of their choice.

is it TRAI happy about chennai digilization?

Chennai is a Super Metro Autonomous which no-one including the people of Chennai can control. Only a Super MSO will decide what and when something can be done, also if they have a bad dream then they can remove any channel just like that and people will write in DDF. :wall :wall
