MUMBAI: While there is a need to have a strong regulatory framework for platform services offered by distribution platform operators (DPOs), there should be no restriction on the kind of content that can be offered and the number of platform services that can be launched.

This was the general consensus among the participants at the recently held open-house discussion (OHD) on platform services in Mumbai.Organised by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the OHD was largely attended by last-mile operators (LMOs).

However, representatives of multi-system operators (MSOs), broadcasters, direct-to-home (DTH), distributors, and cable channel owners were also present.

On the TRAI side, the OHD was attended by member RK Arnold, principal advisor N Parameswaran, Advisor Legal Amit Mohan Govil, Regional Head Karnataka and Kerala Sibichen K Matthew, and AdvisorSunil Kumar Singhal.
