In future people will ask for 3D version of that same channel along with SD , HD as they will have 3D TV. So demand will never end.

This is how business is developed. New tech becomes old after few years & price drops, also the profit. So they need to keep on developing new things to keep the market buzzing. If 3D is not working then they will develop something else.
Few months back there was a documentory on NHK World channel about Sony. 4K tech is already in the market but they are testing 8K & planned for pushing it further. So they will keep the market flooding with new tech.
After all if everyone is happy with SD crt then how these companies will make profit....
