Malayalam channels see biggest gains in viewership among all regional channels

→ Week 45 (November 2 – 8, 2014) ratings according to data sourced from TAM subscribers showed significant developments in the regional markets. In the Bihar and Jharkhand CS4+ market Big Magic Ganga’s ratings scored 1120 GVTs in week 45 from 2012 GVTs in week 44 (October 26 – November 1, 2014) but continued leading the pack in both these regions, Mahuaa Plus scored a rating of 932 GVTs, while Anjan slipped to third position with a rating of 469 GVTs during this week from 616 GVTs last week.

Similarly, Mahuaa’s ratings declined to 389 GVTs this week from 493 GVTs last week.

In the All Maharashtra Marathi GEC market Zee Marathi continued its dominance despite a loss in viewership as it brought in ratings of 1,45,564 GVTs in week 45 from 1,59, 644 GVTs in week 44. Star Pravah saw an increase in its ratings of 52,367 GVTs this week from 49,985 GVTs last week.

This was followed by ETV Marathi, which increased its ratings to 45,989 GVTs in week 45 from 44,500 GVTs in week 44. Mi Marathi however saw a decline in ratings and went from 11,988 GVTs in week 45 from 12,631 GVTs in week 44.

The overall Marathi GEC market declined by 17,714 GVTs in week 45.

In the West Bengal market, the Bengali GEC Star Jalsha saw a very marginal decline in its ratings and dipped from 1,16,561 GVTs in week 44 to 1,15,530 GVTs in week 45. On the other hand, Zee Bangla saw a very marginal increase in its ratings from 76,211 GVTs last week to 77,289 GVTs this week. ETV Bangla saw a decline in the ratings to 21,203 GVTs in week 45 from 23,106 GVTs in week 44. Aakaash is one among the Bengali GECs that has increased their ratings from 14,847 GVTs in week 44 to 16,939 GVTs in week 45.

The complete West Bengal market declined marginally by 137 GVTs in week 45.

A majority of the channels in the Tamil Nadu market too saw a decline in their ratings. The Tamil GEC channel Sun TV took a major dip in its ratings and declined from 2,33,998 GVTs in week 44 to 2,22,131 GVTs in week 45. Vijay (channel) too declined from 73,763 GVTs in week 44 to 63,574 GVTs in week 45. Polimer (channel) lost some ground too as it slipped to 22,667 GVTs in week 45 from 23,224 GVTs in week 44. Next was Raj TV which fell below Polimer channel this week to 21,174 GVTs in week 45 from 24,098 GVTs in week 44. Kalaignar TV was one of the only channels in this market to see a slight increase in its ratings.

In week 45 it recorded ratings of 21,061 GVTs in week 45 from 19,781 GVTs in week 44. Zee Tamil saw its ratings dip from 19,673 GVTs in week 44 to 18,703 GVTs in week 45. Jaya TV declined from 20,540 GVTs in week 44 to 18,577 GVTs in week 45.

In the Karnataka market, most of the Kannada GECs saw their ratings fall. Udaya saw a small decline in week 45 recording a rating of 79,416 GVTs from 80,053 GVTs in week 44. ETV Kannada too declined to 55,148 GVTs this week from 57,772 GVTs in week 44. Next channel Suvarna took a hard hit in its rating as it plummeted to 40,884 GVTs in week 45 from 50,098 GVTs in week 44. Zee Kannada’s viewership ratings for week 45 were 31,218 GVTs from 37,765 GVTs in week 44. Finally, Kasturi too saw its ratings dip from 9,508 GVTs in week 44 to 7,042 GVTs in week 45. Viewership for the entire Karnataka market declined by 21,488 GVTs in week 45.

In the Andhra Pradesh market, there was some increase in viewership for a few channels while others fell. MAA’s ratings declined to 97,017 GVTs in week 45 from 1,00,163 GVTs in week 44. Gemini gained the highest viewership gain during the week in this market as its ratings increased from 85,754 GVTs in week 44 from 95,717 GVTs in week 45. Zee Telugu saw its rating decline this week from 94,109 GVTs in week 44 to 87,426 GVTs in week 45. Next came in ETV, which saw a very marginal increase, as its ratings were 84,754 GVTs in week 45 from 84,675 GVTs in week 44. The entire market saw a very marginal increase in viewership of 225 GVTs.

Finally in the Kerala market, majority of the Malayalam GECs saw an increase in the ratings. Asianet saw its ratings increase to 57,690 GVTs in week 45 from 51,507 GVTs in week 44. Surya increase its ratings from 15,363 GVTs in week 44 to 16,574 GVTs in week 45. Asianet Plus however lost marginally as its ratings declined to 5,631 GVTs in week 45 from 5,797 GVTs in week 44. Kairali had a huge upsurge in its ratings from 4,543 GVTs in week 44 to 5,060 GVTs in week 45. Amrita increased its ratings from 2,088 GVTs in week 44 to 2,578 GVTs in week 45. The Kerala market saw an increase of 8,235 GVTs in week 45.
