New Delhi: Elaborating upon the growth prospects of DTH services in Bihar at the Real India Conclave, Salil Kapoor, COO, Dish TV said the state is growing and changing rapidly.
"Bihar is the only state that has been mentioned in the book, Breakout Nations, which has an international angle. The state that was felt as a burden is taken as a powerhouse," Kapoor said.
Presenting a report at the conclave, Kapoor said, “Bihar is the fastest growing state in the country in terms of economic as well as per capita income, with figures of FY’ 11 and 12 13.2 percent and 12 percent respectively.”
“The TV industry has grown 28 percent since 2007 and the growth in DTH is beyond numeric value at 1069 percent in these five years which showed that there is higher acceptance of better technology, DTH which was a fragment five years ago is now the preferred medium of watching television and has 48 percent share in Bihar,” Kapoor added.
While DTH grew over a 1000 percent, cable grew by only 50 percent from 2007 to 2011 and DISHTV grew by 28 percent since last financial year.
Between 2004-05 and 2009-10 the GSDP has seen a growth of 15.8 percent and has grown to an exponential 35.5 billion dollars. Salil said that there is a labyrinth effect, there is a hygiene factor involved. There can be no economic growth without law and order, with it there will be opportunities for investment to flow in.
From a subscription rate of Rs. 178 in 2010-11 to Rs.211 in 2011-12 and a 65 percent increase in three years, entertainment pattern is swiftly moving to evolve content which is a direct representation of increase in disposable income from Hindi Movies, Hindi Entertainment, Regional Content now the population is upgrading to English Movies, English News, English Entertainment, Sports, Infotainment .
Kapoor also stated that Media & TV access to information has acted as a catalyst in the growth of Bihar.
With better infrastructure, economic opportunities, wealth and frequent travels to towns have exposed rural audience. He said that the higher literacy helps people of Bihar make informed choices and the new communication exposure such as mobile phones have helped the retailers for developing ‘Just-In-Time Stocking’, freeing capital to expand brand and product category portfolios, DISH has also helped in information dissemination, entertainment and advertising.
“All the Biharis who have gone out of Bihar to look for jobs and pursue avenues of alternate employment should now go back and see the changing landscape with improved infrastructure,” he added.
