The Marathi music channel market, occupied
only by 9X Jhakaas, will soon have a new player. Media
Worldwide, which runs a clutch of music channels, is
gearing up to launch Sangeet Marathi in the first week of
September.
Tailored as a pure-play music channel, Sangeet Marathi
will not only air popular film songs but also have a mix of
folk music, Natya Sangeet (theatre songs) and album-
based songs.
Dewoolkar said: “We
have a big library. We are also recreating some videos as
they were shot in poor quality many years back. After the
launch, we will gradually launch music-based
programmes. We will have one show which will provide a
platform for new stars to be born.”
Dewoolkar has played lead roles in Marathi movies like
‘Vaat Pahte Punvechi’, ‘Janmadaata’, ‘Pratidav’, ‘Navra
Majya Muthit Ga’ and ‘Maza Saubhagya’. He has acted in
more than 70 movies and 40 Hindi TV series like ‘Krishna’
and ‘Jahan Pe Basera Ho’. He has also played roles in
Marathi TV series like ‘Damini’ and ‘Lek Ladki Ya Gharchi’.
Dewoolkar is also a popular director and film-maker with
14 films to his credit. Through his association with movies
and performing arts, his understanding of the Marathi
music industry will help Sangeet Marathi expand beyond
just film music.
Media Worldwide, which already operates Music India
(Hindi music channel), Sangeet Bangla and Sangeet
Bhojpuri, is on an expansion mode. After Sangeet Marathi,
the company plans to launch a slate of music channels.
