The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) has cancelled 110 TV channel licences from February 2012 until July 2017, as per information provided by Minister of State in I&B Rajyavardhan Rathore in the Lok Sabha.

Of these 110 licences, nine belonging to Mahuaa Media and STV Enterprises have been reinstated after the Delhi High Court stayed the cancellations.
The main reasons for cancellation of licences are non-operationalisation of licences, non-submission of bank guarantee and denial of security clearance by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

In 2012, the ministry had cancelled 13 TV licences. The main reason was inactivity within a year and non-submission of bank guarantee. In 17 cases, the licence was withdrawn due to denial of security clearance.

In 2013, 38 TV channels had lost their licences mainly due to non-operationalisation within a year and non-submission of bank guarantee. In 2014 and 2015, two licences each got cancelled. The ministry cancelled 25 licences in 2016 while in 2017 30 TV channel licences were terminated.
