I: The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB)
has cancelled 13 TV channel licences in 2016 due to denial of security clearance by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and submission of fake performance bank guarantee (PBG) in one case.
The TV channel licences of Positiv Television, Lemon
Entertainment, Maa Television Network and Navda Creations have been revoked, according to information provided by Minister of State in the MIB Rajyavardhan Rathore in the Lok Sabha.
Only Navda Creations, which had received a non-news
uplinking licence in August, has been stripped of its TV
channel licence for submission of fake performance bank
guarantee (PBG).
Positiv Television’s six uplinking licences, which include five
news and one non-news, have been cancelled.
In case of Lemon Entertainment, two licences, one news and one non-news, have been cancelled.
Maa Television Network’s four non-news licences have been Terminated.
It is pertinent to note that Star India had acquired Maa
Television Network’s broadcast business for $346 million. The company had secured fresh uplinking licences under the name Maa TV, Maa Movies, Maa Music and Maa Gold. Thus, the MIB’s decision had no impact on Star’s acquisition.
The MIB has cited denial of security clearance by the MHA as the main reason for revoking the TV channel licences of the above companies.
