MUMBAI: The Ministry of Information
and Broadcasting (MIB) has issued an
advisory against live coverage of
anti-terrorist operations by news &
current affairs channels in wake of
the on-going anti-terrorist
operations in Gurdaspur, Punjab.
The advisory mentions that it has
been brought to the notice of the MIB
that during today’s on-going anti-
terrorist operations in Gurdaspur,
Punjab, some news & current affairs
TV channels have carried telecast of
these operations without restricting
themselves to periodic briefing by an
officer designated by the appropriate
government, though the operations
had not been concluded.
Such a telecast is in clear violation of
the Cable Television Networks
(Amendment) Rules, 2015, and is
therefore liable for action
thereunder. The advisory asks
channels to desist from further
violation of the said rules with
immediate effect.
The Cable TV Networks (Amendment)
Rules 2015 states that no programme
shall be carried in the cable service
which contains live coverage of any
anti-terrorist operation by security
forces, wherein media coverage shall
be restricted to periodic briefing by an
officer designated by the appropriate
government till such operation
concludes.
