MTG CAPITAL MARKETS DAY – LONDON. MTG sees big growth potential for its DTH operations in both Ukraine and Russia.
According to Irina Gofman, CEO MTG Russia & CIS, Viasat Ukraine, in which MTG now holds an 85% stake, has the highest brand recognition in the Ukrainian market and – with around 90,000 subscribers – is larger than NTV-Plus.
With 15 million Ukrainian homes not in the cable universe, DTH is set to take off rapidly in the country.
Meanwhile in Russia, Raduga TV has identified a market opportunity in the middle segment and has seen its subscriber total grow from 90,000 last year to a current 150,000.
Gofman added that in the Baltic Republics the pay-TV subscriber base is slowly recovering, with MTG taking advantage of IPTV by partnering up in countries such as Estonia to offer virtual packages.
