Vijayawada : Akkineni Nagarjuna is one
of the multi talented artist that the
Telugu movie industry is lucky to get.
Son of legend of Telugu film industry
ANR, Nagarjuna acted as child artist with
his father in Sudiguldalu. After acting as
producer for many films for Annapurna
Studios, he started his career as Hero
with his film Vikram in the year 1986.
This movie is remake of super hit Hindi
movie Hero wherein Jackie Shroff
debuted.
After blockbuster success of the debut
movie, Nag (as he is affectionately called
by his fans) acted in many average films
like Captain Nagarjuna, Sankeertana,
Majnu etc., that could not record
success on the expected lines. From the
movie Collector Gari Abbayi (with ANR
once again), Nagarjuna’s career graph
started moving upward. His subsequent
bumper hits included Aakhari Poratam,
Siva, Agni Putrudu, Kirai Dada etc.
Nagarjuna got married with heroine in
some of his films Amala. Amitabh
married Jaya Bhaduri who acted as his
co-star in many movies.
Nag acted as producer for many films
offering opportunity for other stars. Big
B produced some movies under Amitabh
Batchan Corporation Limited (ABCL).
Like Amitabh, Nag also acted in some of
the own productions.
Amitabh acted with his son Abhishek in
some movies. Nagarjuna acted in many
films with his father ANR. His latest hit
Manam includes his son Naga Chaitanya
in one of the lead roles. Nagarjuna, as a
matter of fact, acted with his other son
Nikhil (child artist in Sisindri).
Amitabh ventured into active politics.
Nag restricted himself to indirect
politics. He restricted himself to
supporting some political parties. His
closeness with many politicians including
YS Jagan is known to everyone.
Amitabh’s KBC has been a trend setter in
Hindi TV history. Nagarjuna’s ‘Meelo
Evaru Koteeswarudu’ (MEK) is also
receiving similar response as that of Big
B’s KBC. MEK already completed 12
episodes as on date and the highest prize
money was Rs.12.50 lacs won. This show
is also having some celebrity episodes
involving Shriya Saron, Vidya Balan etc.
Incidentally, Nagarjuna & Amitabh
shared some movies (like Khuda Gawah,
Agni Varsha) and also some promotional
ad for Kalyan Jewellers.
