MUMBAI: Television distribution veteran TS
Panesar has called it quits at Star India. As
executive vice president, he was handling the
distribution of all Star India channels for direct-
to-home (DTH) and digital addressable system
(DAS) markets.
Panesar is currently serving his notice period till
the end of this month, a source said. He could
not be contacted till the filing of this report.
He has had a long stint at Star Sports (formerly
ESPN Star Sports) and was part of the original
team that saw the sports channel go the pay TV
way. He was instrumental in setting up the pay
TV business for the sports network.
He was the head of the affiliate business for
ESS prior to its merger with Star India. In 2012,
21st Century Fox (then News Corp) had bought
out ESPN’s stake for $335 million.
Following the acquisition, the India business was
handed over to Star while the rest of Asia
business remained with Fox International
Channels (FIC). Panesar continued to lead
affiliate sales business for Star Sports in India.
After the demerger of MediaPro, the distribution
JV between Star DEN and Zee Turner, Panesar
was given the mandate to distribute all Star
India channels for DTH as well as DAS markets.
