The implementation of digitisation in phase III markets of a few states could provide revenue upside for both broadcasters and distributors, according to brokerages. Phase III digitisation, covering all of urban India, has met its December 31, 2015 deadline, although switching off of analogue signals has been affected in some states due to High Court directives.

"Broadcasters will benefit with higher subscriber visibility in Phase III market which will lead to subscription revenue growth, while DTH companies will gain ground owing to the inherent hurdles faced by cable operators of laying out digital cable and funding issues," said a note by Edelweiss. "Overall, we expect Zee, Sun TV, TV18 and Dish TV to be bigger beneficiaries over the long term."

"A faster-than-expected rollout can provide revenue upside for both broadcasters and distributors and Dish TV and Zee remain our top picks on digitisation," said CLSA. "We project 16% domestic subscription revenue CAGR for Zee over FY15-18 while Dish TV is our preferred pick in the distribution space."
