In order to improve the quality of content
broadcast on DD National, the board of Prasar Bharati in a
meeting considered outsourcing the time bands on DD.
The issue of outsourcing the time bands on the channel
was brought up in the earlier meeting as well, where
members stated that some programmes like ‘Buniyad’ and
‘Ramayana’ were successfully outsourced in the past.
A source quoted in a PTI report mentioned, “In the past,
outsourcing programmes was a big hit. Now instead of
outsourcing programmes, there is an agreement on
outsourcing time bands. The proposal how to outsource
the time bands was discussed in detail in the board
meeting.”
The source further added that the proposal was being
examined by Prasar Bharati and that it would be finalised
soon.
The board had earlier decided to outsource various slots
in Doordarshan to private parties in order to enhance
quality and monetisation.
A PTI report stated that the board also discussed in detail
a recent CAT order on the issue of promotions in the
statutory autonomous body.
The 130th meeting of the Prasar Bharati board was
attended by three of the four newly appointed part-time
members including former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s
media advisor Ashok Tandon, singer Anup Jalota and
businessman Sunil Alagh. The fourth member, journalist
Shashi Shekhar, was not present at the meeting.
