MUMBAI: Integrated media services provider Prime Focus has signed a licensing and 3D conversion deal with Canadian 3D conversion technology company Gener8 Media
Corp.
According to the definitive agreement, Prime Focus will secure an exclusive worldwide licence to use Gener8’s proprietary 3D conversion technology G83DTM for the entertainment industry.
For the five-year worldwide exclusive licensing agreement, Prime Focus’ total payment to Gener8 will range from CAD
11.5 million (Rs 565.9 million) to CAD 16.5 million (Rs 811.96 million).
The Gener8 brand and team will provide capacity for the 3D
conversion business with help from Prime Focus’ WorldSourcing model.
The company said that this will give Hollywood ‘more confidence’ in the combined ability of Prime Focus and Gener8 to perform high quality 3D conversion on a larger volume of movies.
Further, by licensing Gener8’s technology as a complement
to its proprietary View-DTM platform, Prime Focus will push
the quality and technical standards of 3D even higher.
“We are focused on building a comprehensive creative services business, with an emphasis on visual effects and 3D conversion services.
Our strength to date has been our
significant offshore capabilities bolstered recently by our merger with Reliance MediaWorks, allowing us to execute significantly higher volumes at enhanced margins,” said
Prime Focus founder, executive chairman and Global CEO Namit Malhotra.
