Four months after its launch, the second English entertainment channel from Times Television Network is all set to bring TV series.
Romedy Now, the English GEC from the Times Television Network, is all set to launch a TV series after four months of its launch. As of now, six TV series are in the pipeline, with possibilities of more in due time.
At the time of its launch, the channel was designed to have both movies and television shows, placing itself in the 'comedy and romance' genre. As the network officials described then, the channels tagline was 'Live.Laugh.Love.', with content suited to this positioning. For four months since its launch, the channel has telecast movies to create sampling and get the viewers accustomed to the channel.
Now, as time spent on the platform has grown quite a bit higher compared to competitors, the channel feels it is the right time to serve variety in its bouquet.
The series in the pipeline are 1600 Penn, Witches of the East End (an American fantasy drama), Kitchen Confidential (American sitcom) and Back in the Game (situation comedy). All the TV series are in the same genre of comedy or romance or both. Special attraction will come in the month of March-April, when the makers of Friends will bring their new show, 'Friends with Better Life'. The new series will be simulcast in India and abroad. Friends, for the record, is one of the most popular sitcoms in the world. The channel plans to telecast movies starting January.
It is learnt that the network is currently focusing on increasing and enhancing the reach and distribution of Romedy Now and has high expectations, given the kind of time spent by the viewers on the channel.
At the time of its launch, afaqs! had reported, "Although the English entertainment genre has grown 98 per cent since 2009, TTN claims that it doesn't have a single channel dedicated to 'romance'. Romedy Now will target audiences in the age group of 15-24 years. It will be launched with a programming line-up of movies. TV series will be brought on later."
