MUMBAI: Firangi TV, a channel by Sahara One Media could get a shot in the arm. If sources close to the group are to be believed, the channel which launched in 2008 will soon be re-vamped. One of the plans being proposed is to air repeat telecasts of popular shows initially aired on Sahara One, in order to build a connect with their audiences.
The channel is expected to have a new name and logo. Firangi TV, when launched, in a departure from the conventional Hindi entertainment programming, sourced content from all across the globe and dubbed it in Hindi for predominantly adult viewers. Though the management put together what appeared to be an attractive programming package consisting of the world's most-watched novellas, sitcoms, short series, adventure series and world cinema, it was almost dead as a dodo right from the get-go.
The revamped channel could be launched in the next three-four months. Sources reveal that a new business head has been appointed to take Firangi to the next level. Ssarita Singh (former creative consultant of Sahara) has been put in charge to make the channel active, entertaining and also bring it into the Hindi GEC genre.
The new plan has long running shows on Sahara One such as Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki, Ghar Ek Sapnaa, Mata Ki Chowki and Doli Sajake Rakhna being aired on the revamped Firangi.
If sources are to be believed, the channel will target LC1 markets, which is the biggest market for GECs.
Unlike before, Firangi TV will no longer be run on DTH, but will also be free-to-air like Star Utsav and Zee Smile and the focus will be on cable TV subscribers.
