Satellite outpaces cable ads by almost 10 to 1 in Brazil

According to latest data published by Brazil's national telecommunication agency ANATEL, DTH surpassed cable in the number of new subscribers in April 2011. Specifically, DTH added 221,712 new clients in that month, a growth of 800% in comparison to cable which added 24, 39 new subscribers. In all, satellite boasts the highest number of clients
in Brazil totalling 5,245,107 subscribers, whilst
cable reaches 5,125,554 clients. Finally ANATEL also
underlines the importance of these figures to the
Brazilian pay-TV sector. The addition of 238,302
pay-TV subscribers meaning a total of 10.657 million subscribers in the whole country, while
cable TV has 121,302 new clients in this first four
months of the year.
