There hasn’t been a host greater than Shah Rukh Khan, especially when it comes to hosting awards shows. And that has been evident with his unmatchable hosting skills at Filmfare awards several times in the past, be it his much loved pairing with co-host Saif Ali Khan or with Ranbir Kapoor or like last year with Kapil Sharma. And if reports in a popular tabloid are to be believed, then this time too he is returning as a host for Filmfare awards. If that comes corrected then it will be a double dose for SRK fans as he has already hosted this year’s Screen Awards with Salman Khan. We just can’t wait to witness his witty side and magic of Shah Rukh Khan as far as hosting is concerned.

Not just that, this time Filmfare awards have added five new categories in order to felicitate short films and the jury assigned for that is pretty interesting with likes of talented film personalities like Vidya Balan, Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Kabir Khan, Gauri Shinde and Meghna Gulzar.

Talking about the same Vidya Balan said, “I’ve been a jury member for several film festivals across the globe but this is truly unique given its format.” Gauri Shinde on the other hand said, “The category is very niche, but we need initiatives like these to back these filmmakers and bring them into the mainstream.” Zoya Akhtar added, “With all the great digital content available, I am sure it’s going to be tough to choose a winner. I am excited about judging these films.”

Meghna Gulzar whose gearing up for her upcoming spy thriller, said, “Sometimes, all you need is a little bit of motivation. Short films are a different kind of art, and being a filmmaker in this space requires enormous talent, squeezing your story into a few minutes instead of hours, and keep it engaging. It will be a unique experience to see these filmmakers walk home with the Black Lady, something that we are only used to associating with mainstream films.”

This time, a new digital segment, the JIO Filmfare Short Film Awards has also been launched. The winners of this segment will be felicitated at the event.

Karan, who will be on the short film jury, spoke about the virtues of the digital medium, and said: "As a filmmaker, the transition from celluloid to digital has been sometimes an emotional one because we grew up on celluloid and definitely every frame that is painted on celluloid is special to me, but digital is the order of the day."
