Around 15 lakh cable homes that get their satellite television feed through multi-service operator (MSO) Manthan missed the AB de Villiers and MS Dhoni IPL show in Bangalore on Wednesday evening after STAR India blocked its channels over unpaid bills
Anticipating STAR India's step, Manthan had moved the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal on Tuesday evening. At the hearing on Wednesday, the tribunal asked Manthan to make an initial payment of just under Rs 5 crore for the channels to be restored. A similar instalment must be paid within the next 30 days, failing which the channels can be disconnected again, it said.
"At the moment, there is no clarity on when the lines would be restored. There is tremendous pressure on us from our subscribers to restore the channels, especially because the IPL is on. There may even be a law and order issue," said a cable operator linked to Manthan.
Cable industry sources said the payment dispute won't end in a hurry.
